MORLEY


Megs Morley is an artist and curator based in Galway, specialising in Curatorial Studies on the Master in Visual Arts Practices (MAVIS), IADT, 2006-2007. She also holds a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from the Limerick School of Art and Design. Her art practice combines elements of curation, art making and writing and is primarily concerned with the intersection of documentation in the creation of cultural and mass memory with specific regards to forms of arts practice that emphasise a social and public engagement. She is currently the director of the Irish Artist-led Archive www.theartistledarchive.com a project that is attempting to create an alternative Irish Arts History through the documentation of Artist-led initiatives that existed in Ireland over the last three decades.

As an art maker, her achievements include: being awarded First prize in the 2005 Claremorris Open Exhibition by Andrea Schlieker, curator of the Serpentine Gallery, London and 'The Fourth Plinth'
Trafalgar Square. She was also the recipient of the Tyrone Guthrie Award in 2005. She was the recipient of the Thomas Dammann Award, awarded by the RHA in 2006. Other selected national and international exhibitions include Eva 2006, '6x6' Ireland, Hanzou and Shangai, China, The Moore Street Lending Library, Crawford Open 4, Arts Trail Cork 04, Catalyst Arts Belfast 2003.

She is also a founding member of the Enso Live Art Initiative, a multidisciplinary group that is committed to the development of live art in the West of Ireland. Collaborative live art projects with Enso include "The Enso Art Bus Tour" Project 06, "The Fourth Floor" Galway Arts Festival 2005, "The Co-Lab" Tulca 2005, Edinburgh Art Festival 2005 with Aurora Projects in Cell 77, Edinburgh, "Home Entertainment" in the home of Margareta D'Arcy, No 10 St Bridget's Place, Galway. May 2005, 'Muscailt' NUI Galway Annual Arts Festival 2005. Other related experience includes working as an arts administrator for Artspace Studios, Galway, from 2005 – 2007. She has written contributions to the VAI Newsheet and she is also currently on the board of directors of G126 Gallery, Galway.
