I paint about the everyday things of our lives and play with motif and style so that I can better explore and reveal my own understanding of painting. I am not seeking a simple or coherent explanation of painting, but rather to engage with all the conflicting, ambiguous qualities involved in making paintings today. Simple objects are painted in thick rich impasto giving them an importance beyond their expected position, while grand landscape appear to float above the canvas on an invisible skin of clear wax. These simple inversions play with the conventions within painting, but also open up notions of personal motif and archetypical connotation. You are provided with a gentle conflation of motif, material and styles with which you can create your own story.
