These paintings are part of an ongoing body of work titled “empty landscapes”. The pieces are mostly small in scale and are painted on wooden panel. The images come from a variety of sources. Photos, drawings and found pictures are often redrawn or heavily edited to create the basis for a piece. The subjects are usually isolated and fragmentary, both man-made and natural found in a variety of environments. Mountains and lakes, fences, buildings, telegraph poles, roads, are viewed in a similar way. The subjects are stripped of a nostalgic attachment to place. The intent is to present works that are open ended and spare, both in scale and treatment. They seek to represent a kind of internalised picture of the world and to provide an intimate experience of empty spaces
