Gleigh Gaughan

My recent paintings are a sort of visual dialogue which invariably depend on balancing various elements. A fusion of visual referents provide an armature for ongoing interests such as the possibilities of colour, texture and light. Allusions to various environments sometimes anchor the work while others are inspired by literature and music etc. The work is under-pinned by a dialogue with contemporary painting practices and historical precedents. Ultimately all these referents are metaphors for an expression. To make works that are “open” is the challenge, allowing for multiple readings depending on the viewer’s perspective.
