His practice deals with a number of ongoing concepts by means of various media and modes of production, notions of self perception, existentialism and mediation of reality through the conscious and unconscious. The surreal and the absurd, the male human condition these conceptual investigations lend themselves to the creation of characters, images, narratives and performance actions through artistic realisation. On a personal level all work derives from internal experiences, images, dreams, relationships and interactions of the artist. The artwork is collaborative in nature; He creates work in collaboration with individual artists and groups and values this as an integral part of his work. His work has been exhibited widely both in Ireland and abroad Tom has written, performed and created a number of video, film, and performance works solely and collaboratively, which have been performed/exhibited in various venues nationally and internationally including the Ann Arbor film festival2006, the Galway, Belfast and Kerry film festivals2003-2005.(Solo exhibitions)include Belltable arts centre limerick 2004 and Tulca Galway 2005and 2006.Studio 6 Temple Bar Gallery and Studios Dublin2006 (Group) SSI Tonic, Backup Dublin Fringe festival, Arts trail Cork, Catalyst Arts Belfast, Enso platforms Galway, Eva 2006, Four Gallery, Dublin 2006. Tom is a founding member of the Galway based Artists led initiative ‘Enso’ (www.ensoart.com) a collaborative initiative promoting live art, dialogue on contemporary practice and cross disciplinary collaboration and networking. For the past number of years Toms art practice has focused on the filmic image and its possibilities in relation to the characteristics of the cinematographic system and cinema experience, he also produces installations , live performance, photography and sound work.
