My approach to my work is quite eclectic. I work with many mediums such as photography, performance art, painting and tapestry. I feel it's important to keep rotating the approaches I take to my art as it will ensure a fresh perspective.
This work was produced last summer. Because of my emotive approach to painting, my work deals with the idea of living under the constant influence of ones emotions. I wanted to try make visual, the process of thought and decisions during a period in a persons life.
The level of interconnectedness is so entwined with what makes you who you are, that the most subconscious of emotions are being utilised every second of every day and in all assessments one makes. I find this concept fascinating. My frame of reference was my own emotional landscape. This developed into my giving a texture, colour and a context to a phase in my life.
In the series of 6 paintings entitled 'Sentient', I applied texture-giving techniques to canvas, including polyfila, fabric, and tissue paper.
