Gleigh Gaughan

As a visual artist I work with mixed media, predominantly oil paint on board and canvas. Primarily I am concerned with the exploration of colour in my work, while simultaneously investigating the opposing qualities of form and formlessness and their inter-relationship within a painting. My sources are varied, ranging from natural and culturally constructed forms which I reduce to oblique abstracted objects. The natural forms are aspects of landscape in the broadest sense. While culturally I am interested in architectural forms and quirky shapes which present from a myriad of synthetic objects. Through the painting process qualities of light and fluidity have developed into a veiled layer which is significant in most works. At this juncture the notion of a 'liminal' space is realised.
