DE LANGE
Born in Kroonstad, South Africa, Lidia studied painting, printmaking and jewellery design at the Pretoria Technicon and graduated in 1989 with a diploma in Fine Art, She has been living in Galway since 1991 where she has been a member of both ‘The Works’ and ‘The Muse’ artist’s cooperatives. She was a member of Artspace Studios from 1995 to 2004.

“the subject matter for my painting evolves around still-life, landscapes and figures, my figurative work tends to be more personal, exploring issues relating to the human condition. Every picture has a story to tell. For this purpose I use bulky female figures, emphasizing the curves and organic rhythms of my subjects in a decorative way these are symbolic images rather than portrayals of specific people. I prefer using everyday objects and events to convey the fragility of human relationships.”
