Gleigh Gaughan

I paint to express my increasing and continuous observation of my surroundings. This is communicated mostly from juxtaposed angles of architectural building located around the city scapes of the manmade world. I combine these shapes with colours to complete selective compositions. I am interested in colour relationships, I am beginning to explore colours that I would not necessarily have used before – and are almost a direst reverse of the colour scheme emanated from the architecture and streets themselves – although subconsciously I may soak in the colour choice as a result of walking through the streets from advertising on billboards/bus stops/articulated lorries etc. This is then translated onto the canvas in bold shapes. I apply underlining effects by overlapping and dry brushing. I place flat surfaces against textured surfaces to echo the existence of this in my surroundings. I use a variety of materials to create different marks on the surface and beneath the painting.
